How to Search for a Warrant in Rio Grande County
Start with jurisdiction, not a name. A Colorado felony complaint, misdemeanor, petty offense, or state traffic case belongs to the Rio Grande Combined Court. A citation from Del Norte, Monte Vista, or South Fork may belong to that city's municipal court instead. The Rio Grande County Sheriff posts no public warrant portal. No statewide warrant database exists either. A warrant check here is really a chain of official contacts. Gather the court name, citation or case number, filing year, and document type you already have. Keep full birth dates and addresses out of public messages. Then work each step in order.
- Check the official Rio Grande docket for a hearing or case reference. Treat it as a schedule, not live warrant confirmation.
- Call the Combined Court clerk at 719-657-3394 or email RioGrandeClerk@judicial.state.co.us for state-court status and access instructions.
- Contact the Del Norte, Monte Vista, or South Fork municipal clerk when the issuing agency or citation names that city.
- Use the Judicial Branch record-document request for a specified complaint, ticket, disposition, or Register of Action.
- Ask the Rio Grande County Sheriff’s Office what it can confirm by phone and which custodian holds the record.
Note: Colorado Crime Information Center data is restricted law-enforcement information, not a public warrant-search channel.
Rio Grande County Docket Limits
The Colorado docket interface lets a Rio Grande County warrant search filter by county, courthouse, date, case details, party, or attorney. A hearing line such as "Appearance on Arrest Warrant" can help. It shows the event happened, nothing more. Service, return, recall, or sealing may have changed things later. The clerk and the case file hold the current answer. Treat a docket row as a pointer. Pull the case number, hearing type, court location, appearance type, and courtroom from it. Then ask the Combined Court clerk what today's notation means. Do not copy a private person's identifiers into a public post.
Rio Grande County Warrant Search Fields
Rio Grande County publishes no official warrant search form. The useful fields come from the state docket and the court record-request tools instead. A docket search needs at least one filter beyond the date range. A case number beats a name. The request form accepts more detail, since it goes privately to court staff rather than onto a public screen.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| County and courthouse | Selection | For local scope | Choose Rio Grande and the correct court. |
| Date range | Date | Yes on docket | Combine with at least one more filter. |
| Case number | Year, class, sequence | No | Best known state-case identifier. |
| Party | Name or business | No | A name match alone does not confirm identity or status. |
| Case type and year | Request fields | When known | Helps the clerk find the record. |
| Date of birth | Private form field | No | Submit only through the official form when needed. |
Request Rio Grande County Court Records
File a focused request when the docket falls short. Rio Grande County cases run through the same state paperwork. The Colorado court record-document request form asks for requester contact details, county, case number, case type, filing year, party name, and other identifiers. You choose the documents you need. Options include a criminal complaint, ticket, disposition or sentence order, protection order, or Register of Action. Certification is optional. It may add cost. The form's requester and contact area is laid out on its official page.

This route seeks one defined document. It does not ask the clerk to judge whether someone is wanted. State form fees include a $5 name search and $0.25 per ordinary copy page, plus added charges for certification, retrieval, research, or redaction. Ask the Rio Grande County clerk for an estimate first.
What a Rio Grande County Warrant Search Returns
Rio Grande County offers no public warrant-result screen. Related records fill the gap in pieces. A docket gives event data. A Register of Action may show charges, minute orders, sentences, and case events. The JDF 370 appearance-bond form lists a warrant number and an arrest number as court-use fields. None of those alone confirms present warrant status.
| Case number | A year, case class, and sequence, such as 2026-CR-00123; this is a made-up format example. |
|---|---|
| Warrant number | A separate court-use identifier that may appear in warrant or bond records. |
| Issuing court | The court that controls the order and any recall. |
| Hearing entry | Date, time, hearing type, location, appearance type, and courtroom. |
| Bond or appearance | Any public return date, bond type, conditions, or required court step. |
| Status terms | Active, served, returned, recalled, or quashed, subject to clerk confirmation. |
Rio Grande County Status Terms
Warrant records use short status terms that invite overreading. The true meaning depends on the dated entry and the Rio Grande County office that keeps it.
- Active
- A status that may change after service, a court appearance, payment, or recall.
- FTA
- Failure to appear, which may be a docket event, a warrant reason, or another notation.
- Return or service
- Information about an officer serving the order and returning it to court.
- Recall or quash
- Court action withdrawing or canceling a warrant.
- ROA
- A Register of Action, which is a case-history record rather than every document.
A blank result does not mean clear. A Rio Grande County order may be new, sealed, held by a municipal court, served, recalled, or simply missing from the public interface.
Where Rio Grande County Warrants Are Checked
State criminal, misdemeanor, traffic, and petty-offense records route to the Rio Grande Combined Court. So do felony complaints. District Court and County Court share the courthouse and one Clerk of Court. Del Norte, Monte Vista, and South Fork municipal clerks keep their own ordinance and traffic files. The Sheriff's Office may hold service records. It does not hold the order itself.

Rio Grande County Payment Search Boundaries
The 12th Judicial District collections channel and the official payment portal support case, ticket, or name searches. Neither is a warrant database. A payment can settle a fine. A hearing, bond term, or warrant event still needs court action in Rio Grande County. Ask the clerk whether payment is allowed and how the result gets recorded. The D12 collections page lists local payment methods and counter information.

Payments after 4 p.m. post the next business day. Rio Grande County cases also allow in-person, mail, phone, and payment-plan routes, with a $25 annual plan processing fee. That does not prove a recall. The official Colorado payment portal shows its case, ticket, and name controls.

Keep the receipt from any Rio Grande County payment. Still ask the court whether a warrant condition remains, since a transaction alone clears nothing.
Rio Grande County Custodian Check
One arrest can trail paper through several offices in Rio Grande County. The court clerk holds orders, dockets, and the Register of Action. A municipal clerk keeps a city case file. Police or the Sheriff keeps its own agency reports. Cooperation between agencies never merges those files into a single Rio Grande County warrant index, so a records request has to name its target. Ask for "inspection of a specified public record," a court register, a municipal citation file, or a docket entry tied to a known case, and include the date span plus your preferred delivery method. If the first office is not the right one, ask it to identify which office is. Avoid requesting everything tied to a name. Narrow wording cuts down privacy, scope, redaction, and fee problems.
Access and Restricted Rio Grande County Warrants
The Judicial Branch public-records access guide states plainly that the branch provides no direct online case-record access. Court rules, the Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act, the Colorado Open Records Act, and court orders govern inspection of Rio Grande County records. Official-action records may be open, while investigative, intelligence, security, juvenile, sealed, or protected material can be withheld or redacted. That restriction is the branch's own published position on access to Rio Grande County warrant records.

This boundary is why a Rio Grande County warrant search must finish with the proper custodian, not an unofficial directory.
Key rules: Sealed warrants do not become public because a name was searched. Juvenile matters have separate limits. CCIC is restricted, and absence from a public screen is not proof that no warrant exists.
Note: Ask for the legal basis, expected fees, redactions, and alternate custodian when an official request is denied or narrowed.
